At Acumen, we focus on the intrapersonal issues of an individual, the complicated relationship between a couple, as well as the even more complex dynamics of the entire family.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling addresses specific internal and personal issues along with mental health concerns. These concerns are typically thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors that disrupt people's lives (socially, academically, professionally, and/or interpersonally) and frequently negatively impact the lives of those close to them. The therapeutic framework and approach utilized with each individual is chosen to be developmentally appropriate and offer a good ‘fit’ for the client.

Couples Counseling

Relationship counseling, marriage therapy, and marital counseling all refer to couples counseling. Couples counseling focuses on the relationship between two individuals, rather than internal/personal issues or concerns within either individual. This focus addresses the relational building blocks (trust, communication, etc.), emotional issues (love, hurt, etc.), and the process of healing/repairing/rebuilding the relationship.

Family Therapy

Family therapy explores the family dynamics and views the family/household as a system. This can often address communication patterns, triangulations, parenting styles/approaches, and/or behavioral issues within the home, school, or the community. Family therapy is often warranted to address stressors impacting the entire family, such as addictions, domestic violence, divorce, or the loss of a loved one.
